KARV Summit

Our first ever KARV Summit was held on May 22nd, 2024 at the top of the Metlife Building.

With a focus on Navigating Global Strategy in the Age of Innovation we will navigate together the world of emerging technology and its geopolitical implications.

Additionally, we will highlight some of today’s most innovate and forward-thinking non-profit strategy and philanthropic work.

Agenda

  • At KARV we have been delving into the world of innovation – how technology - meaning not only AI, engineering, and physical technology, but also future-thinking, smart individuals and companies – are reshaping solutions for complex issues facing the world. With this changing environment around the world we closely monitor the intersection of technology and policy regarding intellectual property, regulations and safety standards.

With Verizon shifting towards AI – there is a balance between artificial intelligence and human interaction, as written in Verizon’s whitepaper:

    • “How comfortable are consumers with the roles played by humans and machines in their online interaction with brands?

    • How do consumers feel about data use?

    • Is it possible to have a “human” interaction in an automated experience?”

  • We could be cliché and say that since the pandemic the interest in wellness including healthcare and food has peaked, but the truth is, this complex conversation has been bubbling to the surface for quite a while. In the United States we are seeing accessibility to healthcare difficulties, state-by-state policy in 2024 drastically altering our ability to provide care, and the sheer number of chronic diseases rapidly increasing by the day. When we look beyond the US, around the globe, there is an overall inability to fill the world’s needs – just look at the Ukraine-Russia war. Eric at Northwell Health is working to address these challenges through the implementation of diverted care through partnerships with various non-profits around Ukraine, to help amputees, with the utilization of biotech and a matrix of relationships. Remote patient monitoring and telemedicine can and will bring places like Ukraine, Israel, and Gaza much closer to other countries’ hospital and healthcare services much more easily than ever seen before in previous conflicts.

This, is where food, comes into play. We have seen food shortages in Ukraine, just as we have seen it in Israel and Gaza. Unfortunately, we see this challenge all over the globe. Working alongside Jose Andrés, Richard is immersed in finding solutions to our broken food systems through policy, innovation, and public engagement. He has played a leading role in Andrés’s founding of the Global Food Institute at GW University in Washington DC, as well as the advocacy work of Andrés’s non-profit World Central Kitchen, which has served more than 350 million meals after natural and man-made disasters over the last decade. Central to their model of transforming food systems and disaster relief is public engagement through storytelling, including TV and streaming shows, books, podcasts and newsletters.

At KARV we have been delving into the world of innovation – of how technology - meaning not only AI, engineering, and physical technology, but also future-thinking, smart individuals and companies – are reshaping solutions for complex issues facing the world, one poignant one being global public health. With Biotech and better foods rising through the ranks in terms of VC funding, we are seeing many companies venture into these newly uncovered worlds, putting together the pieces of the puzzle of the connection between overall health & food, we are also seeing the intersection of technology and policy, with many difficulties being faced by our clients and innovative companies.

Leading the way, Eric and Richard are both making quite a dent in their respective fields – both through notable non-profits, Northwell Health and World Central Kitchen. They work beyond geopolitical boundaries to provide care, nutrition, and innovation to places where they are most needed.
